The Genus Soterosanthus

The name for this monotypic genus was coined by F. Lehm.; abbreviated Strsnt. The type species is Soterosanthus shepheardii (Rolfe) Jenny, published in Orchidee (Hamburg) 37(2): 74. 1986. [Previously Sievekingia shepheardii Rolfe, Bot. Mag. 141: t. 8635. 1915; Soterosanthus F. Lehm. ex Jenny].

This small plant grows epiphytically in coastal forest from 0 to 500m above sea level. It's found in the Esmeraldas Province of Ecuador as well as in Colombia. The flowers are yellow and pendant.
